APC Wins Kano By-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Shuaibu Rabiu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Rabiu secured a landslide victory with 35,356 votes, far ahead of his closest rivals. Lawal Garba Haruna of the Action Peoples Party (APM) polled 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the Labour Party received 908 votes.

The Returning Officer, Professor Umarsani from Bayero University Kano, announced the results and formally declared Rabiu duly elected, having satisfied all legal requirements.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy in the House of Representatives following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency.

INEC officials reported a relatively peaceful exercise, though voter turnout was described as moderate in some areas. Major opposition parties were reportedly absent or performed poorly in the contest.

With this victory, the APC continues to strengthen its hold in Kano State’s federal representation. Shuaibu Rabiu is expected to be sworn in soon to assume his duties at the National Assembly.
