The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Aliyu Bello, has dismissed concerns that the defection of former Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, to the Social Democratic Congress (SDC) will weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a rally in Angwan Gayam, Lafia, Bello urged party members to accept the outcome of the governorship primaries in good faith, noting that power ultimately comes from God.
Adamu had lost the APC ticket to Senator Ahmed Wadada, who emerged as the party’s candidate.Bello criticised support groups burning brooms the APC’s symbol as a sign of protest, insisting that such actions cannot erase the party’s achievements.
He highlighted infrastructural development, youth empowerment, women inclusion, and peaceful coexistence under Governor Abdullahi Sule as proof of APC’s relevance in the state.
“Brooms can be burnt, but the ideology and impact of our party cannot be burnt,” Bello said, stressing that the APC’s strength lies in its record of governance and the presence of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.
Other speakers at the rally, including Lafia Deputy Chairman Uba Arikya and APC chieftain Sidi Ndagi, urged residents to focus on good governance rather than divisive politics.
They called on voters to support APC candidates across all positions in 2027, praising Sule’s developmental strides.
The rally drew thousands of supporters displaying party banners, posters, and brooms, reinforcing APC’s grassroots presence in Nasarawa State.
