Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to defect to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He described the claim as false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Femi Awogboro, Adelabu insisted he remains a committed member of the APC and has not contemplated joining any other political party.
“At no time has Chief Adelabu contemplated, initiated, discussed or authorised any move to the SDP or any other political party,” Awogboro said.
He stressed that the APC’s governorship primary process for the 2027 election has not yet been concluded, making rumours of defection baseless.
Awogboro further argued that Adelabu’s political ambition is not driven by desperation, pointing to his distinguished career in both the public and private sectors built on competence, integrity, and hard work.
The statement accused promoters of the rumour of attempting to exploit Adelabu’s growing popularity in Oyo State for political attention.
“We urge those behind this false narrative to focus on presenting their own credentials and programmes to the electorate rather than seeking relevance through association with Chief Adelabu’s name,” it added.
Awogboro warned against misinformation and propaganda in Oyo politics, revealing that Adelabu’s legal team is reviewing the publication and may take legal action if the falsehood persists.
He reiterated that Adelabu remains focused on his vision for Oyo State and committed to the ideals of the APC.
“Chief Adelabu remains steadfast in his commitment to the APC and will not be distracted by political opportunism, cheap publicity stunts or attention-seeking fabrications,” the statement concluded.
