Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced that more than 30,000 residents living with HIV are currently benefiting from free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services across health facilities in the state.
Speaking in Abeokuta on Thursday during the commissioning of the Pharma-Grade Warehouse of the Ogun State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency, Abiodun highlighted his administration’s strides in healthcare reform.
He urged residents to make use of available services by visiting hospitals for proper diagnosis and treatment.
The governor emphasized that the state has expanded HIV testing, strengthened prevention programmes, and intensified efforts to reduce new infections.
He commended the Global Fund for its role in expanding access to HIV treatment, tuberculosis diagnosis, malaria prevention, and the provision of essential medicines.
Describing the new warehouse as a strategic investment, Abiodun said it would improve the storage and distribution of medicines and test kits across Ogun’s 20 local government areas, ensuring timely access and reducing shortages.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and tackling tuberculosis through community outreach, contact tracing, and expanded diagnostic services.
“Our message is clear: tuberculosis is preventable, detectable, and curable,” he stated.Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, praised the governor’s investment in advanced drug-testing technology and revealed plans to deploy systems that monitor stock levels in medical facilities.
Global Fund Executive Director, Peter Sands, described the warehouse as the largest and best-equipped among 22 facilities built nationwide, pledging continued support to strengthen Ogun’s healthcare system.
