2027: Six Oyo Reps Dump PDP Join Makinde in APM

Six members of the Oyo State caucus in the House of Representatives defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Allied Peoples Movement on Tuesday, boosting Governor Seyi Makinde’s political camp.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read 13 defection letters at plenary after the Sallah break. The Oyo lawmakers who moved to APM are Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle, and Adigun Adekunle.

In their letters, the reps cited “protracted internal crisis and leadership tussle in the PDP” as reason for leaving to pursue their ambitions in 2027.

Makinde defected to APM weeks ago and has declared his intent to run for president in 2027. With Tuesday’s move, he now has six of Oyo’s 14 House of Reps members in APM.

Other defections were announced too: Bauchi’s Auwalu Gwalabe left PDP for APM; Katsina’s Shehu Dalhatu dumped APC for PDP; Delta’s Etanabene Benedict moved from Labour Party to PDP; Cross River’s Alex Egbona left APC for PDP; Edo’s Esosa Iyawe switched from APC to Nigeria Democratic Congress; and Nasarawa’s Gbefwi Gaza moved from SDP to Labour Party.
