The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has clarified that he will not determine who emerges as leaders in Oyo State in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the power lies with the voters.
The revered monarch, a former governor of the state, made the remark on Wednesday while addressing journalists at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.
He noted that several governorship aspirants and other politicians have been using his name to promote their ambitions.
“All politicians in the state are my children, and there is nothing wrong with anyone associating with me politically,” Oba Ladoja said.
“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them. But the populace will decide who rules them at the end of the day, not my name.”
The Olubadan emphasised that voters would ultimately assess aspirants based on their antecedents, popularity, and performance rather than any traditional ruler’s influence.
Oba Ladoja’s statement comes amid growing political activities and permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State, where several aspirants, especially within the All Progressives Congress (APC), are jostling for positions.
In the same interaction, the monarch condemned the recent abduction of 39 students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing it as unfortunate, while expressing confidence in ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to secure their release.
He also spoke against land grabbing in Ibadanland, describing the practice as unacceptable in the ancient city.
