Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully repelled an attempted cross-border incursion by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists, neutralising 12 fighters in the process.
The attack occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026, along the Kirawa axis in Borno State, under the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V and Siege Operations.

The troops, who were on high alert, responded decisively, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray back into Cameroon territory. Several other terrorists were said to have sustained gunshot wounds.
The operation was supported by intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets, air component strikes, and coordination with partners.
Preliminary assessment showed that 12 terrorists were killed in the encounter, while one soldier was wounded in action. No equipment was lost by the troops.
Items recovered from the terrorists include AK-47 rifles, RPG components, rounds of ammunition, and other assorted materials.
Military authorities stated that troops have maintained their positions and are conducting exploitation operations in the area to prevent any regrouping by fleeing elements.
The general security situation in the axis remains calm but unpredictable.Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring lasting stability across the North-East theatre.
