The Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has said that contemporary political process cannot guarantee good governance.
Amadi said this during an interview on Arise Television
while reflecting on conduct of primary elections in Nigeria.
However, he said that it does not mean that good governance
cannot emerge from time to time.
Amadi added that the process itself is flawed and often
lacks structure or sequence, noting that there is nothing consistently orderly
about it.
“Today’s political process cannot logically guarantee good
governance. What is needed is a sense of realism.
“Democracy, as an ideal, requires a gradual and structured
process of democratization that starts with getting the basics right. It may
take time, but the foundation must be solid.
“If political parties are stable, then it becomes possible
to clearly identify and even predict who the delegates are,” he said.
