Tinubu Meets CAF President Motsepe in Kenya

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria held a bilateral meeting with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe on Tuesday during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The leaders discussed strategies to enhance collaboration among governments, the football ecosystem, and the private sector. Their goal is to drive development initiatives across Nigeria and the broader African continent.

CAF shared images of the engagement on its official X account, noting that the two leaders met on the sidelines of the summit. According to the post, discussions focused on cooperation between government, football stakeholders, and private sector players in Nigeria and Africa.

Motsepe is also scheduled to speak at the summit. His attendance comes as preparations ramp up for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

The meeting took place as President Tinubu participates in the Africa-France Summit (themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth”), co-chaired by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron. The event, running May 11–12, focuses on energy transition, green industrialisation, digital transformation, global financing reform, and climate action.

Tinubu arrived in Nairobi on Monday as part of a three-nation tour that began in France. After Kenya, he is expected to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum.

The engagement underscores ongoing efforts to leverage sports, particularly football, as a tool for broader socio-economic development on the continent.
