Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has thrown his weight behind Aisha Yesufu’s ambition to contest the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Sowore described Yesufu as a credible and strong candidate, while criticising her party’s decision regarding its choice of candidate for the position.
The activist made the remarks following Yesufu’s recent move from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she declared her intention to run for the FCT Senate seat.
Yesufu, a prominent co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, has vowed to bring her activism and advocacy into governance, promising to tackle key issues affecting residents of the FCT if elected.
Sowore’s endorsement is seen as a significant boost for Yesufu’s ambition, as both are well-known voices in Nigeria’s pro-democracy and good governance movements.
