Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are already facing significant challenges from the Nigerian public.
Adebayo made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV while reacting to comments by Vice President Shettima at a book launch event hosted by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Shettima had disclosed that some individuals attempted to pitch him against President Tinubu barely three months into the administration.
Responding to the revelation, Adebayo said he was pleased there is no rift between the president and his deputy. He urged them to maintain a strong bond, noting the greater challenge they face.
“I encourage them to bond together because they are already in trouble. There’s a fight between them and Nigerian people. Nigerians are not happy with them because of the suffering people are going through under their administration,” Adebayo stated.
He added that any internal discord would amount to “double jeopardy” for the leaders and advised them to focus on governance rather than internal conflicts.
“They have just a few months before Nigerians kick them out. So they should use that time to do good work,” the SDP chieftain remarked.
The comments come amid ongoing public discourse on the performance of the Tinubu administration, particularly on economic hardship and living conditions in the country.
