Relatives of Suspected Coup Plotters Stage Peaceful Protest in Abuja

Families of military officers detained over an alleged coup plot on Monday staged a peaceful protest in Abuja, demanding transparency, access to their relatives, and a speedy trial.

The protesters, mainly wives and other relatives of the detained officers, marched to the Federal Ministry of Justice to express their grievances over the prolonged detention and what they described as secretive handling of the case.

One of the wives, who spoke to journalists, confirmed that the demonstration was organised by affected families.“We are embarking on a demonstration on Monday (today) on behalf of the families of the detained military officers still in detention,” she said.

“The peaceful protest is to take place at the Ministry of Justice.”The relatives are calling for either the immediate release of the officers or a fair and transparent legal process.

They have repeatedly complained about limited or no access to their loved ones and the lack of speedy trial. The detained officers include several senior military personnel facing charges related to an alleged plot against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The protest highlights growing concerns among the families over the handling of the high-profile case, which has lingered for months.
