Operatives of the Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilantes, have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and arrested five suspected kidnappers in a joint bush combing operation.
According to a statement from the Edo State Police Command, the victim, Jemila Ibrahim, was abducted on May 10, 2026, in the Etsako West area of the state.
She was rescued unhurt on May 13, 2026, around 7:30 p.m. during operations around Okpege River Road, Iyuku. She received medical attention afterward.
The five suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping are:
Nura Saminu, 24
Shaibu Isah, 23
Suraj Sabitu, 23
Yajubu Sagiru, 23
Oseni Abdullahi, 26
They are currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court after investigations are completed.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
Locals have also praised the role of vigilantes in the successful operation.
This incident highlights ongoing security efforts in Edo North amid persistent kidnapping challenges in the region.
