Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State safely detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed inside an abandoned backpack on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahim Daso, the suspicious bag was discovered during a routine surveillance and foot patrol at Layin Logo in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri around 9 a.m. on May 5, 2026.
The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit Base 13 was promptly deployed to the scene.
Experts identified the IED inside the backpack and detonated it following standard safety procedures.
The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or objects to the nearest police station immediately.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with more details expected to be released later.
