The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, has officially withdrawn from the 2027 Bauchi State governorship race, despite persistent calls from supporters urging him to contest.
In a 10-minute video message delivered in Hausa and widely shared on social media, Pate announced his decision following deep reflection and extensive consultations.
He cited his commitment to national service as the primary reason, stating that he still has significant contributions to make to Nigeria’s development and the progress of Northern Nigeria.
“It is unlikely that I will run for governorship in 2027, and I assure you that you will not regret the love and support you have shown me throughout this period,” Pate said.
Although he is stepping aside, Pate pledged to remain actively involved in the political process.
He promised to support the emergence of credible candidates during the primaries and work towards the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State at all levels.
“There are many aspirants seeking various elective positions in Bauchi State. The time will come when I will support credible and capable candidates who have the interest of the people at heart, not self-centred leaders. We will identify the best candidates during the primaries,” he added.
Pate also urged other aspirants to remain patient and unite behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate from the primaries, emphasising the need for sacrifice and party loyalty.
He thanked his supporters and vowed to continue delivering positive development and impactful interventions in his current role.
Pate has previously contested for the Bauchi governorship on multiple occasions but did not secure the party’s ticket.
His withdrawal is expected to reshape the dynamics of the APC governorship race in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
