Over 50% of APC Members Dissatisfied with Conduct of Primaries – North-Central Forum

The North-Central APC Forum has raised serious concerns over the just-concluded State and National Assembly primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that more than 50 percent of party members across the country are unhappy with how the exercise was conducted.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the Forum said the poor handling of the primaries has vindicated its earlier warning that the process had been heavily monetised and commercialised by some national officers of the party.

The group noted that the primaries were marred by widespread irregularities, including arbitrary disqualifications, conflicting results, and instances of violence.

Many aspirants who were screened out have rejected their disqualification and threatened to seek legal redress.

“From what we have gathered, 50 percent of party members across the country are not happy with the conduct of the APC primary elections. They are not happy with the national chairman,” the statement said.

The Forum alleged that disqualifications were often targeted at aspirants who refused to comply with the demands of certain national officers and their preferred coordinators in the states.

It further claimed that the selection of primary election committee members was based more on personal relationships and loyalty rather than competence and experience.

This, according to the group, has led to confusion in several constituencies and senatorial districts.

The North-Central APC Forum had, days before the primaries began, raised the alarm that party officials were collecting money from aspirants in exchange for tickets, a development it linked to the last-minute shift in the date of the House of Representatives primaries.

The Forum urged the national leadership of the APC to call erring officers to order to prevent a major crisis that could damage the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also reminded party leaders of President Bola Tinubu’s directive for free, fair, and transparent primaries devoid of rancour and violence.

The development highlights growing discontent within the ruling party as it concludes its primaries for the National Assembly elections.
