Olumide, son of Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun; and four ex-commissioners of Dapo Abiodun, governor of the state, have secured the House of Representatives return tickets of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC in Ogun on Monday declared them among winners of the
House of Representatives primary elections conducted across the state on
Saturday.
Philip Shaibu, chairman of the Ogun state APC national
assembly primary elections committee, announced the results at the party
secretariat in Abeokuta after receiving reports from collation officers across
the federal constituencies.
According to the committee, Funmi Efuwape emerged as the
party’s candidate for Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo north federal constituency.
She served in Abiodun’s cabinet, first as commissioner for
women affairs, and later as commissioner for special duties and
intergovernmental affairs.
Olumide, who currently represents Abeokuta north/Obafemi
Owode/Odeda federal constituency, secured his return ticket for a fourth term,
having been re-elected in 2019 and 2023.
Moruf Afuape, current member representing Abeokuta south
federal constituency, also secured his return ticket.
He previously served as commissioner for local government
and chieftaincy affairs during Abiodun’s first term.
The list of winners also includes Toyin Taiwo, chief of
staff to the governor and former commissioner for culture and tourism, who won
the APC ticket for Yewa south/Ipokia federal constituency.
“The committee also declared Olanrewaju Bashorun winner of
the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency primary and Adijat Adeleye as the party’s
candidate for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency,” the statement reads.
“In the remaining constituencies, Joseph Adegbesan emerged
winner for Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency, while
Razaq Dadah clinched the ticket for Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East Federal
Constituency.”
While Bashorun is a prominent APC chieftain and Seriki of
Ota, Adeleye served as commissioner for women affairs and social development
under Abiodun.
Adegbesan and Dadah are incumbent members of the green
chamber.
However, the latter was Abiodun’s special adviser on local
government and chieftaincy affairs.
The party also declared Gboyega Isiaka winner of the primary
election for Imeko Afon/Yewa north federal constituency, noting that the
results followed the successful conduct of the primaries across the affected
constituencies in the state.
Isiaka is also a current member and chairman of the house
committee on national planning and economic development.
He reportedly declared his intention to contest the 2027
Ogun governorship election before the party adopted Solomon Adeola as its
consensus candidate.
