The member representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Marcus Onobun, has rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election result for his constituency, claiming he emerged as the rightful winner of the direct primary held over the weekend.
In a petition submitted on Sunday to the APC Primary Election Petitions Committee, Onobun demanded that the party formally declare him the authentic candidate, citing ward-level results that he said clearly favoured him.
“I be declared the rightful winner of the APC primary, having secured majority of lawful votes,” he stated in the petition.
He argued that available results from across the 30 wards, along with reports from party officials and agents, supported his victory.
The APC Primary Election Committee had declared Lucky Esiegbe (also referred to as Eseigbe) as the winner of the contest, a decision Onobun is strongly challenging.
Onobun alleged irregularities in the collation and announcement of results in several wards, claiming that due process was not followed.
He maintained that the direct primary, which allowed registered APC members to vote across the constituency, produced a clear outcome in his favour.
The lawmaker, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in July 2025 amid internal crises in his former party. He is seeking re-election into the House of Representatives under the APC platform.
This latest development adds to the growing controversies trailing the APC’s House of Representatives primaries in Edo State, with parallel claims and allegations of irregularities reported in some constituencies.
