Ondo Ex-Lawmakers endorse Tinubu for second term

The Association of Former Ondo State House of Assembly Members has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

The group, which cuts across different party lines, made the endorsement as part of resolutions reached at a meeting in Akure, the state capital.

In a statement, jointly signed by the Chairman, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, Secretary, Olusegun Akiode, and Public Relations Officer, Tayo Abidakun on Saturday, the former lawmakers said they were united in their decision, describing it as one driven by evidence, experience and a forward-looking vision for Nigeria.

“Today is not just another political gathering. It is a moment of responsibility. A moment to reflect, to assess, and to take a decisive stand in the interest of our nation.

“We, the former legislators of Ondo State House of Assembly, men and women who have had the privilege of serving our people and understanding the dynamics of governance, stand here united, deliberate, and convinced in our decision to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office,” the statement read.

The group said Tinubu inherited an economy burdened by unsustainable subsidies, a fragile fiscal structure and systemic inefficiencies, but chose to act rather than delay difficult decisions.

“The removal of fuel subsidy, though painful, was necessary. It was a bold step that previous administrations avoided. Today, those savings are being redirected into critical sectors, states now receive improved allocations, infrastructure funding has expanded, and there is renewed fiscal discipline,” the statement read.

The former lawmakers also credited the administration with foreign exchange reforms, which they said had begun restoring investor confidence and laying the foundation for long-term economic stability.

On infrastructure, security and youth development, the group said the administration had demonstrated clear intent through investments in roads, rail, energy and skills programmes.

The former legislators also praised the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, saying his performance had brought innovation, accessibility and renewed efficiency to the ministry.

“Under his leadership, we have seen tangible improvements in areas such as immigration processes, internal security coordination, and public service delivery,” the statement read.

The group further acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande.

While commending the administration’s record, the former lawmakers acknowledged that ongoing reforms remained incomplete.

“The foundation has been laid, but the structure is still rising. To abandon this process midway would not only reverse the gains made but also plunge the nation back into uncertainty,” the statement added.

The group called on Nigerians across party lines and regions to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that true transformation required time, discipline and steady leadership.

“What Nigeria needs at this critical juncture is continuity, stability, and consolidation,” it said.
