The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly denied allegations that it prevented any presidential aspirants from purchasing nomination forms ahead of the party’s 2027 presidential primary.
In a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, by the faction’s spokesman, Ini Ememobong, the Interim National Working Committee described the claims as false and misleading.
“We state clearly that the Interim National Working Committee is not aware of any hindrance by the party through its officials to prevent anybody from purchasing the forms,” the statement read.
Ememobong noted that the party had extended the deadline for the purchase and submission of nomination forms in response to appeals from party members.
The new deadline for purchasing and returning completed forms is Friday, May 22, 2026, while the special screening for those yet to be screened is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The faction also clarified that although the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the South, no Nigerian can be constitutionally barred from contesting for any elective office.
“To this end, we urge the public to discountenance any story alleging that the party is preventing people from purchasing forms,” Ememobong added.
“We reiterate that our forms are still available during the period specified in the amended timetable, and all Nigerians seeking to genuinely contest on our platform are free to obtain, fill, and return their forms.”
The clarification comes shortly after the Turaki-led PDP announced plans to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential aspirant, before later granting him a waiver from the screening exercise due to his stature as a former leader.
The faction urged all interested and eligible aspirants to take advantage of the ongoing window to obtain their nomination forms without hindrance.
