I Remain 'Authentic' Kogi East APC Senatorial Candidate - Senator Jibrin

Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho, representing Kogi East Senatorial District, has strongly reaffirmed his position as the authentic All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the senator dismissed reports claiming that an APC primary election was held in the district, describing them as false, fabricated, and politically motivated.

Jibrin, popularly known as Echocho, addressed growing controversy surrounding the ticket, including viral claims that he polled zero votes in his ward and lost to Joseph Erico reportedly the preferred candidate of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. He insisted that no valid primary election took place.

The lawmaker also debunked social media reports suggesting he had withdrawn from the race or stepped down for another aspirant.

“I remain the authentic candidate of the APC in Kogi East and I am firmly committed to seeking the mandate of my people once again under the platform of our great party,” he declared.

He emphasised that he neither made such comments nor authorised anyone to speak on his behalf regarding withdrawal.

“At no time did I withdraw, step down, or authorise any individual or group to issue statements on my behalf regarding such baseless claims,” Senator Jibrin said.

“Never at any point verbally or in writing have I informed anyone that I will not return to the Senate in 2027.”

The senator urged APC leadership, supporters, and stakeholders not to be swayed by what he called the antics of “fifth columnists” spreading confusion and misinformation.

He accused unnamed political actors of resorting to propaganda because they lack genuine support in the district.

Jibrin expressed confidence that no amount of misinformation would diminish the strong support he enjoys across Kogi East.

He vowed to remain focused on delivering quality representation to the people.
