The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to allow every aspirant who purchased Expression of Interest Forms to participate in the party’s primaries.
This decision was announced by former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson after a marathon meeting that lasted till early Wednesday morning.
The meeting was attended by the National Chairman, presidential aspirant Peter Obi, and other top party leaders.
Dickson said the party received the report of the Screening Committee led by Sam Egwu and, due to time constraints, resolved that all Expression of Interest buyers should proceed to the primaries in their respective constituencies.
Primaries Schedule
The NDC primaries will hold on Thursday, 28th and Friday, 29th May 2026. Aspirants will use their Expression of Interest Forms to participate.
Only successful candidates will later proceed to the party secretariat for nomination forms and documentation.State Assembly primaries will be conducted via direct primaries at constituency level, while House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship, and Presidential primaries will take place at Local Government Headquarters.
Final results will be announced at the party’s National Secretariat.
The leadership encouraged consensus where possible.
Emphasis on Peace and Fairness
The party warned of zero tolerance for violence, threats, or intimidation, and urged primary committees to be fair, transparent, and inclusive, especially towards women and youth aspirants with winning potential.
An Appeal Panel will be set up to handle complaints. Due to the tight timeline, the primaries will be manual, but Dickson assured members that this will be the NDC’s last manual primary, promising electronic voting in future exercises.
He called on all stakeholders, INEC, and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible process.
The NDC described itself as a enduring political institution built for service to the nation, not for individual interests.
