The Labour Party (LP) has issued a strong warning to its members, supporters, and prospective candidates against purchasing nomination forms from Julius Abure, describing them as “worthless paper” issued by political fraudsters.
In a statement on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, the LP accused the embattled former National Chairman of impersonation and attempting to deceive unsuspecting aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The warning was triggered by viral pictures on social media showing Abure presenting what he claimed were nomination forms to individuals in Abia State.
The statement emphasised that Senator Nenadi Usman is the recognised National Chairman of the Labour Party, and all legitimate nomination forms for the 2027 elections can only be obtained from the official National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja.
“Consequently, any so-called Labour Party nomination form obtained from Julius Abure or any other unauthorised source is nothing but worthless paper being peddled by political fraudsters seeking to deceive unsuspecting persons,” the party declared.
The LP also questioned why Abure’s activities were concentrated in Abia State and warned that Governor Alex Otti would not yield to blackmail or political theatrics.
It described Abure’s continued claim to the national chairmanship as criminal impersonation.
This development highlights the ongoing leadership crisis in the party between the Abure faction and the Usman-led National Caretaker Committee.
The Court of Appeal had reportedly upheld the Federal High Court’s decision recognising Usman as the legitimate leader, a ruling backed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Abure has rejected the verdict and plans to challenge it at the Supreme Court.
Efforts to get Abure’s reaction were unsuccessful as his phone line was unreachable.
