The Labour Party (LP) has rescheduled its 2027 presidential, governorship, House of Representatives, and state House of Assembly primary elections to May 30.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, announced the change in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
Originally, the party had set governorship and state House of Assembly primaries for May 27, with presidential and National Assembly primaries slated for May 29. All exercises will now hold on the same day, May 30.
Asogwa explained that the adjustment was necessary due to a clash with major national events. “In consideration of the spiritual significance of the Sallah celebration and the national importance of the 29th May anniversary, the Labour Party, as a people-oriented and responsive political party, deemed it appropriate to adjust its schedule to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,” he said.
The party described the decision as one taken in the interest of inclusiveness and national sensitivity. It also apologised for any inconvenience the shift may cause to aspirants, stakeholders, and members of the public.
This move allows LP members and supporters to fully participate in both the Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah) celebrations and Democracy Day commemorations without conflict.
