Former National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has praised former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for placing national unity above personal ambition in recent political realignments.
Johnson made the remark on Monday during an interview on Arise Television while reacting to the defection of Kwankwaso and Peter Obi from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If you are not satisfied with what is happening in the country, there are other leaders from the South, and within our party we have Peter Obi,” Johnson stated.
“We have also seen that Kwankwaso has thrown his weight behind this decision, because he believes Nigeria’s unity is more important than personal ambition, and I dare say he will support Peter Obi as he begins this journey.”
The move by the two prominent opposition figures is seen as a strategic step to consolidate opposition forces and present a stronger front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential election.
Political observers note that the development highlights ongoing efforts at opposition unity, even as questions remain about how power-sharing and leadership roles will be resolved within the new platform.
