A group of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kogi East Senatorial District has petitioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), urging it to disregard the reported suspension of Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Ibrahim Mohammed, the stakeholders described the suspension as politically motivated and called on APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary to thoroughly examine all documents relating to the matter before taking any decision.
They specifically urged the NWC to ignore what they called a “purported letter of rejection” being circulated by some party members, alleging that many signatories were not authentic ward executives.
“This is a clear case of impersonation and political desperation taken to its highest level,” the statement read.
The development is the latest twist in the deepening crisis within the APC in Kogi East following the recent senatorial primary election, where Senator Echocho reportedly lost the ticket amid allegations of zoning arrangements and anti-party activities.
The stakeholders threw their weight behind the senator, praising his legislative performance, constituency projects, and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
They argued that his re-election would benefit the Igala nation and Kogi East. They appealed for calm among party members and warned that actions capable of deepening divisions could weaken the APC’s strength in the district ahead of future elections.
