Jonathan Has Bought 2027 PDP Presidential Nomination Form – Party Chieftain

A former presidential aide and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Sani, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has purchased the party’s presidential nomination form for the 2027 general elections.

The assertion comes amid heightened political activities and speculation surrounding Jonathan’s potential return to the presidential race on the PDP platform, as different factions of the party continue to push various narratives about his involvement.

Recent developments show intense maneuvering within the PDP, with one faction led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, announcing plans to screen Jonathan as the sole presidential aspirant.

The screening was scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with a high-profile committee including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi.

However, reports indicate Jonathan did not appear for the expected submission of his nomination form on Monday, leading to an indefinite postponement according to sources from a rival PDP faction.

Critics within the party have described the moves as factional tactics amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the PDP.

Jonathan, who has not publicly declared his intention to run, has remained silent on the matter. In the past, he has distanced himself from similar efforts, such as when groups purchased forms for him ahead of the 2023 elections.

The claim by the party chieftain adds to the growing conversation about possible PDP strategies for 2027, including efforts to draft Jonathan as a consensus candidate capable of unifying the party and challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

PDP stakeholders remain divided, with some viewing Jonathan’s potential return favourably due to his experience and broad appeal, while others question the timing and internal party dynamics.

The opposition party continues to grapple with leadership disputes even as preparations for the next electoral cycle intensify.
