A prominent commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists near Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the incident occurred along a route near the Lake Chad axis while the commander was travelling in his vehicle.
The IED detonated, completely destroying the vehicle and killing the CJTF commander on the spot.
The deceased was known for his active role and support in ongoing counterinsurgency operations against terrorists in the North-East.
ISWAP fighters are notorious for planting IEDs along major roads and frequently targeting security forces and pro-government militias in the Lake Chad region.
