Ekiti 2026: INEC, Security Agencies Crack Down on Vote Buying, Violence

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have reaffirmed their determination to tackle vote buying and election violence as preparations intensify for the Ekiti State Governorship Election scheduled for June 20, 2026.

During a high-level readiness assessment meeting held today in Ado-Ekiti, INEC and members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) reviewed strategies to ensure a peaceful, credible and transparent poll.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, identified vote buying, political thuggery, fake news, and logistics challenges as major threats to the election.

“Stronger collaboration, professionalism, neutrality, and rapid response mechanisms among ICCES members will be crucial to addressing the challenges,” Dr. Omoseyindemi said.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Micheal, assured residents that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain law and order, warning against any form of electoral misconduct.
