Morris Monye, a former Director of Mobilization for the Obidient Movement, has issued a public apology to Peter Obi and members of the movement over his earlier criticism and resignation letter.
In an open letter posted on his verified X account on Thursday, May 21, 2026, Monye described his previous actions as driven by “frustration and immaturity.” He admitted that his resignation statement had unfairly dragged Obi, whom he continues to respect for his vision, integrity, and sacrifice for Nigeria.
“I made statements that subtly and unnecessarily dragged Peter Obi... That was wrong. It was childish, and beneath the standard I should have upheld,” Monye wrote.
He took full responsibility for the letter, noting that it was written and released without external influence. Although he later deleted the resignation statement, Monye acknowledged that the damage to trust within the movement could not be erased so easily.Addressing Peter Obi directly, Monye said: “Sir, I am sincerely sorry. My words were not a true reflection of the values of sacrifice, accountability, and constructive criticism that you preach.”
He also extended his apology to all Obidients, particularly the young people who have remained committed to the cause. “You didn’t deserve to see internal cracks turned into public drama. I let you down,” he stated.
Monye clarified that he is not seeking any position or favour in the movement, as he is currently enjoying private life. He emphasized that the apology was necessary for personal accountability and leadership growth.“I am committed to rebuilding trust through consistent actions, not just words,” he added, while respecting that forgiveness and restored trust, if granted, would come gradually.
The development comes months after Monye’s resignation in November 2025, which had highlighted internal frustrations, including alleged lack of structure, funding, and support within the movement following the Labour Party’s performance in elections.
Monye concluded the letter with humility: “Whether you accept my apology or not, I respect your feelings and your right to hold me accountable... My respect for the Obidient spirit remains. I am sorry truly.”
