Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed deep disappointment over what he described as betrayal by his political ally, Governor Abba Yusuf.
Speaking during a two-hour media chat at his Kano residence on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Kwankwaso lamented the breakdown in their relationship.
“I never expected betrayal from him. I gave my final trust, but today you can all see where it has led us,” he said, in apparent reference to Governor Yusuf.
Kwankwaso was responding to questions about comments attributed to Governor Yusuf regarding political defections. He dismissed the matter using a Hausa proverb: “Ina ruwan jaka da inda aka ajiye ta” (A bag has no choice of where it is kept).
The former presidential candidate also criticised some beneficiaries of his administration’s educational sponsorship programmes, noting that many of them had turned against the political movement that supported them.
“Some of the people we sponsored in school were very young then, but today they are the ones speaking against us. I’m happy many of them have now kept quiet,” he added.
During the interactive session, Kwankwaso also addressed other national issues, including insecurity, which he linked to poor investment in education, and his political understanding with Peter Obi ahead of 2027.
This latest statement highlights the ongoing political tension between Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf, despite their once-close alliance. More reactions are expected as the 2027 political permutations continue to unfold.
