Hayatu-Deen Boycotts ADC Presidential Primary Results Announcement, Alleges Rigging

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has boycotted the official announcement of the party’s presidential primary results, citing serious concerns over vote rigging.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Hayatu-Deen said he would not attend the results announcement scheduled for the day.

He expressed deep worry over reports of irregularities across the country, some of which he personally observed.

“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps,” he wrote.

The ADC conducted direct primaries across Nigeria’s wards on Monday, May 25, 2026, with over three million party members reportedly eligible to vote.

The contest featured three major aspirants: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and Hayatu-Deen, a former chairman of the Nigeria Economic Summit Group.

Early results from several states showed Atiku Abubakar securing strong leads in places like Sokoto, Yobe, Gombe, Imo, and Abia, while Amaechi won in Bayelsa.

The development comes as the ADC positions itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, seeking to build a strong alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
