Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat on Saturday appeared before the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee in Abuja, where he was granted a clean bill of health and cleared to contest the party’s governorship primaries.
In a statement following the screening, Hamzat expressed gratitude for the approval, describing it as a significant step forward in his political journey.
“This journey is about service and a commitment to all Lagosians,” Hamzat said. “We have built a solid foundation and now we are ready to take the next step toward a greater and more inclusive Lagos.”
The clearance positions Hamzat as a strong contender for the APC ticket in the 2027 Lagos governorship election. He emphasised continuity, stating that ongoing developmental work in the state remains a priority.
“The work continues and I am ready to keep moving forward with you,” he added.Hamzat’s successful screening comes as the APC prepares for its primaries, with several aspirants expected to vie for the party’s nomination.
His clearance underscores the party’s confidence in his leadership and track record alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
