Gunmen on Friday morning invaded the Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting the principal of Community High School and an unspecified number of students.
The attack occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. at the school premises. According to the Oyo State Police Command, the assailants whisked away Mrs. Rachael Alamu, the school principal, along with several students.
The exact number of abducted students remains unconfirmed.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that the gunmen also shot a teacher during the raid, though the severity of the injury has not been verified.
Residents reported that the attackers fled the scene with the principal in her vehicle and escaped into a nearby forest reserve.
The delayed response from security forces was attributed to the distance of the nearest police station from the community.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police has since deployed officers to the area to assess the situation and launch rescue operations.
This latest incident adds to growing concerns over school-targeted abductions in parts of Nigeria. More details are expected as investigations continue.
