The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted $461,600 in undeclared cash from two passengers at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and handed them over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The suspects, a male and a female, arrived from Dubai on May 8, 2026, aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
They declared $130,000 and $180,000 respectively, but a secondary inspection uncovered an additional $151,600 concealed in their baggage.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Tahir Balarabe, the Acting Customs Area Controller, DC Usman Adamu, described the act as a violation of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, which requires travellers to declare cash above the statutory threshold.
The suspects, the seized funds, and their travel documents have been transferred to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.
