The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused unnamed government agents of plotting to pressure Justice Emeka Nwite to step down from the high-profile case involving Nafiu Bala Gombe and the leadership crisis rocking the party.
In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi alleged that desperate forces within the corridors of power are working behind the scenes to frustrate the case by forcing the judge to recuse himself so it can be reassigned to judges perceived as more politically compliant.
“The ADC has uncovered a disturbing plot to frustrate the course of justice by mounting pressure on Justice Nwite to step aside from the case,” the statement said.
The party warned that any such move would undermine judicial independence, erode public confidence in the judiciary, and amount to a dangerous interference in the administration of justice.
According to the ADC, the matter is still scheduled to come up before Justice Nwite on May 8, 2026, despite the Certified True Copy of a related Supreme Court judgment not yet being officially released.
The party called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Chief Justice of Nigeria to protect the judiciary from external political influence and safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
