The Federal Government has officially awarded the contract for the construction of a brand-new Carter Bridge in Lagos to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The handover ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Carter Bridge, Lagos Island, Lagos State.
The project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure and enhancing the safety of citizens, especially in key economic hubs like Lagos.
The existing Carter Bridge, a major link between Lagos Island and the mainland, has been a long-standing infrastructure concern due to its age and structural condition.
The new bridge is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, boost economic activities, and replace the ageing structure with a modern facility.
This development forms part of ongoing federal efforts to rehabilitate and modernise critical bridges and roads across the country.
