The Federal Government has refuted claims making the rounds on social media that the National Award Scholarship Programme has been suspended and the Federal Scholarship Board dissolved.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry of Education, the government described the viral notice as false and misleading.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, clarified that no directive was ever issued suspending any scholarship programmes.
The Ministry explained that the Federal Scholarship Board has only been renamed the Department of Scholarship Awards (DSA), while its core responsibilities and functions remain the same.
It reassured students, parents, and all beneficiaries that all recognised Federal Government scholarship programmes across the country remain active and unaffected.
However, the Ministry confirmed that the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme has been discontinued following a policy review aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s local tertiary education system.
The statement emphasised that the discontinuation of the BEA programme does not affect other local scholarship schemes, including the Nigerian Scholarship Awards, Federal Government Bursary for Education students, and the Presidential Scholarship for former NYSC corps members.
Current beneficiaries of the BEA programme will continue to receive full government support until the completion of their studies.
The Ministry condemned the spread of the fake notice, warning that such misinformation is capable of causing unnecessary panic and confusion among students and their families.
The statement was signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
