FCT Rep: I Joined NDC Because of Peter Obi

A House of Representatives aspirant from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has revealed that his decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was primarily driven by the recent entry of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The aspirant, identified in recent NDC events as Gambari Ismaila (contesting Bwari Constituency), praised the party’s platform and leadership while aligning himself closely with Obi’s vision for national renewal.

This comes amid a wave of defections and realignments in the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja organized in collaboration with the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Ismaila commended NDC founder and National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for building what he described as a credible vehicle for genuine change.

He emphasized that the party offers a stable, litigation-free environment focused on justice, equity, accountability, and competent leadership qualities he associates with Obi’s political brand.

Ismaila’s statement reflects broader momentum within the NDC following the formal joining of Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Many aspirants and members view the “OK Movement” (Obi-Kwankwaso) as a powerful North-South alliance capable of challenging the status quo.

Other NDC House of Representatives aspirants at the event stressed that any future Obi-led administration would face rigorous accountability from a new generation of lawmakers committed to people-oriented governance rather than business-as-usual politics.

This development underscores the ongoing opposition reshuffle, as politicians and supporters migrate to platforms perceived as more unified and focused on delivering tangible results for Nigerians.

The NDC is positioning itself as a fresh alternative emphasizing national rebirth, reduced ethnic and religious divisions, and inclusive prosperity.
