Ex-Gov Lamido's Son Picks PDP Governorship Nomination Form for 2027 Jigawa Race

Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, has formally obtained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination form to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Lamido presented the nomination form to members of the PDP State Working Committee and other key stakeholders in the party, seeking their endorsement and support.

The move puts to rest speculation about a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources indicated that earlier talks with the APC did not yield any agreement.

In his remarks to party leaders, Mustapha Lamido reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating that he remains a committed card-carrying member.

He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to overcome its challenges and deliver good governance to the people of Jigawa.

“We are PDP card-carrying members, and we believe in our party’s philosophy, strength, and resilience… No other party has ever brought projects and programmes that improve their lives like that of PDP,” he said.

He urged all PDP members in the state to remain united and work towards strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 polls.

Lamido, who polled 368,726 votes in the 2023 election but lost to incumbent Governor Umar Namadi of the APC, is positioning himself once again as the PDP’s leading contender in Jigawa.

This development signals early political manoeuvring within the PDP as opposition parties intensify preparations for the next general elections.
