Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, unity, and national renewal as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
In a statement issued by Eseme Eyiboh, his media aide,
Akpabio congratulated President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima,
and Muslims across Nigeria and beyond on the occasion.
Akpabio said the celebration reflects the virtues of faith,
sacrifice, obedience, and devotion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
“This sacred occasion reminds us of Prophet Ibrahim’s
unwavering faith, obedience, and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of
Almighty Allah,” he said.
“These timeless virtues of devotion, selflessness, and
submission to divine will are values our nation desperately needs today.”
The senate president urged Nigerians to pray for peace,
security, and prosperity in the country.
“Let us pray for our troops in the frontlines, for farmers
to return safely to their fields, and for unity to prevail over division in our
nation,” he said.
Akpabio said Nigeria is passing through a difficult period
that requires patience, tolerance, and collective sacrifice.
“The sacrifices we make today in patience, in tolerance and
in choosing hope over despair will determine the Nigeria our children inherit,”
he said.
He added that the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the current
administration is anchored on the principle of collective sacrifice for
national progress.
BARAU SEEKS PRAYERS, SUPPORT FOR VULNERABLE NIGERIANS
Barau Jibrin, deputy senate president, also called for
prayers, unity, and support for vulnerable Nigerians during the Eid
celebration.
In a statement signed by Ismail Mudashir, his media aide,
Barau urged Muslims and other Nigerians to pray for peace and progress in the
country.
He also congratulated Nigerian pilgrims performing the hajj
in Saudi Arabia and asked them to remember Nigeria in their prayers.
“True believers must uphold the values of sacrifice,
obedience, tolerance, justice, and charity,” Barau said.
“In the spirit of this season, let us extend a hand of
support to the poor and needy around us, and regardless of our differences,
recommit ourselves to building a united, peaceful, and economically strong
nation.”
The deputy senate president also urged Nigerians to continue
supporting the Tinubu administration.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has continued to demonstrate
leadership and commitment towards addressing the challenges facing our
country,” he said.
“With sustained efforts and the support of all Nigerians, we
are confident that the nation will achieve greater stability and prosperity.”
NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN CALLS FOR COMPASSION, NATIONAL
COHESION
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Kogi central senator, called on
Nigerians to embrace compassion, sacrifice, and national unity during the
Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Akpoti-Uduaghan described the festival as a season of
reflection, gratitude, and commitment to humanity.
“Eid el-Kabir is a sacred season of reflection and
gratitude,” she said.
“It reminds us that sacrifice, faith, and compassion remain
essential virtues in building peaceful families, stronger communities, and a
more prosperous nation.”
The senator urged leaders and citizens to place service,
accountability and human dignity above personal interests.
“The significance of Eid goes beyond celebration. It is a
reminder that true leadership and responsible citizenship demand sacrifice,
empathy, and an unwavering commitment to the common good,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also appealed for peaceful coexistence and
national harmony across the country.
“As we mark this blessed celebration, let us renew our
commitment to peace, tolerance, and unity,” she said.
“Regardless of our backgrounds or affiliations, our
collective future depends on our ability to stand together and work for the
progress of our communities and our nation.”
ADEOLA URGES PRAYERS FOR PEACE, SUPPORT REFORMS
Solomon Adeola, chairman of the senate committee on
appropriations, urged Nigerians to pray for peace and support the consolidation
of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
Adeola, who is also the APC governorship candidate for Ogun
state in 2027, said the teachings of Islam on sacrifice, love, and peaceful
coexistence are important for national development.
“As the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
prepares to mark its three years in office with acclaimed positive indicators
of escaping total collapse of the economy and achievements in socio-economic
gains expected to continue trickling down to the masses, the nation needs
security, peace, understanding and sacrifices to consolidate observable gains,”
he said.
The senator also pledged to continue delivering democratic
dividends to his constituents through empowerment programmes and constituency
projects.
