EFCC Chairman Orders Apology to UUTH Surgeon Over Hospital Raid

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has directed the commission’s operatives to apologise to Professor Eyo Ekpe, a cardiothoracic surgeon and Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), and members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

The directive follows a review of a preliminary report on the May 12, 2026 incident involving EFCC personnel and medical staff at the teaching hospital.

Olukoyede expressed regret over the discomfort and disruption caused to hospital staff and members of the public.

In a statement on Monday, the EFCC said the chairman acknowledged that the wellbeing of Nigerians remains central to the commission’s mandate.

He assured that a full investigation into the incident would be conducted, with officers found culpable facing appropriate disciplinary measures.

Olukoyede further appealed to the NMA and other professional bodies to continue supporting the EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts, while pledging that such incidents would not recur.
