The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has denied reports of his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by his Media Aide, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Danjuma, Abdullahi clarified that he only honoured an official invitation from the anti-graft agency.
The statement described his appearance as voluntary and in line with due process and respect for constituted authorities.“It is important to clarify that he was not arrested, but attended the engagement voluntarily as a responsible public servant committed to transparency and accountability,” the statement read.
Abdullahi appealed to the public to avoid speculation, misinformation, and unverified claims that could distort facts or create unnecessary tension.
He urged Nigerians to allow relevant agencies to carry out their duties so that the facts can emerge through lawful and transparent processes.
He emphasised the presumption of innocence, stating that the matters in the public domain remain allegations subject to investigation.
The clarification follows media reports that the EFCC had detained him over alleged money laundering involving around ₦500 billion.
