Former Senator Dino Melaye has sharply criticised Peter Obi, accusing him of fleeing political challenges and preferring comfortable, low-stakes environments over tough contests.
Melaye’s remarks come after Obi and his ally, Rabiu Kwankwaso, dumped the crisis-ridden African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday and moved to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement on Wednesday, Melaye said Obi is avoiding competitive primary elections and only thrives in easy situations.
“He excused himself from a tough situation. If he cannot face party tribulations and crisis, how does he intend to handle Nigeria? Because Nigeria wahala pass ADC problems oooo,” Melaye said.
The outspoken politician claimed Obi has never contested a primary election in his political career.
“He can only operate in an air-conditioned kitchen. Hot kitchens are not for him. He has never gone through primary. APGA gave him free Governorship ticket, Atiku gave him free VP ticket, Labour gave free Presidential ticket,” Melaye added.
He further alleged that Obi left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and now the ADC to secure another “free ticket” in the NDC, which he described as “an agency of the APC.”
The defection of Obi and Kwankwaso has triggered a wave of exits from the ADC to the NDC amid ongoing leadership disputes and litigations in the former party.
This development is seen as part of broader realignments in the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
