Court Rejects Bauchi AG’s Request to Travel Abroad Amid N1.6bn Trial

Justice O.A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday rejected an application by the Accountant General of Bauchi State, Sirajo Muhammad Jaja, seeking permission to travel abroad while facing trial over alleged N1.6 billion fraud.

Jaja had requested to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for religious pilgrimage (Hajj) and medical check-up.After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, Justice Egwuatu dismissed the application.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to June 30, 2026, for the continuation of trial.

Jaja is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside a Bureau de Change operator, Aliyu Abubakar, on an amended five-count charge bordering on money laundering and conversion of public funds belonging to the Bauchi State Government to the tune of N1,635,270,350.9.

The case is ongoing.
