A Washington-based lobbying firm linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on members of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to provide verifiable evidence of alleged political interference ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., made the call following allegations by the Taminu Turaki-led PDP faction of a plot to disrupt its planned ratification ceremony for former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate.
The faction claimed that the Federal Capital Territory Administration, under Minister Nyesom Wike, threatened to shut down the venue (A Class Event Centre) if it hosted the event. Despite the threat, the group insisted the ceremony would proceed as scheduled.
In a post on its X handle, the lobbying firm stated that members of the US Congress had requested assistance in documenting credible allegations of election and political interference by the current Nigerian government.
“We would like to speak with members of the PDP who can provide credible, verifiable, and indisputable evidence regarding the reported election interference by @GovWike described below. Please email [contact provided],” the firm said.
The firm noted that Atiku had instructed it to advocate for free and fair elections in Nigeria. It was hired by the former Vice President under a $1.2 million contract earlier in 2026 to boost his international profile and influence policy conversations in the United States.
The development comes amid a deepening crisis within the PDP, as rival factions clash over the legitimacy of Jonathan’s endorsement and the party’s leadership structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
In a related move, the FCTA has warned event centres, hotels, and public buildings against hosting what it described as illegal political gatherings, threatening to revoke their title documents.
