APC Suffers Major Setback in Bauchi as Two Senators Defect to PRP

In a significant blow to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Senator Shehu Buba Umar and Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa have officially defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The defections come in protest against the APC’s choice of former Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who had shown strong interest in contesting the APC governorship primaries, withdrew from the race just 24 hours before the scheduled date.

He cited a lack of internal democracy and alleged manipulation of the primary process. He has now been named the PRP’s consensus governorship candidate for Bauchi State in the 2027 polls.

Similarly, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa, who joined the APC only months ago after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defected following indications that he would be denied a return ticket to the Senate.

He has been announced as the PRP’s consensus candidate for the Bauchi North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.

The double defection represents a major loss of key political figures for the APC in Bauchi and is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in the state ahead of the next general elections.
