The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State, Mr. Chris Nwosu (also referred to as Chris McCool Nwosu), has resigned from his position and the party, barely one month after his election.
In his resignation letter, Nwosu stated that his decision was primarily driven by the recent exit of former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Anambra Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, from the ADC. He expressed a strong commitment to supporting Obi’s political aspirations and vision for a “New and Working Nigeria.”
The letter read in part: “I write to formally resign my membership of the African Democratic Congress, effective immediately. For the avoidance of doubt, my resignation is informed by the unavoidable exit of HE, Mr Peter Obi, CON from the party, as well as my burning desire to support his genuine aspiration to effectively contribute his quota to the birthing of a New and Working Nigeria.”
This development comes shortly after Peter Obi announced his departure from the ADC, citing internal crises and a challenging political environment within the opposition coalition. Obi’s move has triggered notable shifts, including defections by some lawmakers.
Nwosu’s resignation highlights the ripple effects of Obi’s exit on the party’s structure in Anambra State, where Obi retains significant political influence. Further updates on his next political steps are anticipated.
