Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) have arrested four suspected terrorists believed to be behind a series of violent crimes that have plagued the state for the past eight months.
State Commander Adetunji Adeleye announced the arrests during a briefing with journalists in Akure.
He described the operation as intelligence-driven and conducted in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to Adeleye, the suspects belong to a criminal gang involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and the destruction of property across various parts of Ondo State.
The gang’s leader, who allegedly received directives from outside the state, was captured during a coordinated crackdown that also dismantled the group’s logistics and supply network. Additional syndicate members were arrested in the operation.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the four suspects have been transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further interrogation and prosecution.
The commander confirmed that the suspects confessed to their roles in the instability the state has experienced in recent months.
“We have commenced operations, and the result of their activities is the instability witnessed in the last eight months,” Adeleye stated, while withholding further operational details to protect ongoing DSS investigations.
The arrests are part of broader efforts to restore peace by clearing criminal hideouts in Ondo’s vast forest reserves, which stretch across six local government areas and share borders with three neighboring states.
Joint operations involving the police, military, DSS, Amotekun, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have intensified to flush out criminals from these areas.
Adeleye also noted a strategic shift toward prosecution, revealing that case files for about 142 suspects were completed and forwarded to courts in the past month.
These cases involve charges ranging from kidnapping and anti-grazing violations to communal clashes and cult-related crimes.
An additional 64 suspects are undergoing profiling for possible prosecution or alternative dispute resolution.
The development signals renewed momentum in the fight against insecurity in Ondo State.
