Air Peace begins Lagos-Barbados direct flights

Air Peace has commenced direct commercial flights between Lagos and Barbados in a move aimed at improving air connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.

In a post on X on Monday, the airline confirmed the successful operation of its inaugural scheduled commercial service on the Lagos–Barbados route on May 24.

“Yesterday, we successfully operated a historic direct commercial service between Nigeria and the Caribbean, connecting people, businesses, cultures and opportunities like never before,” Air Peace said.

“With over 284 passengers onboard the inaugural Lagos–Barbados flight, this milestone marks another bold step in strengthening Africa-Caribbean connectivity while reducing the stress of multiple stopovers and transit visa hurdles.”

In April 2025, the ministry of aviation and aerospace development announced that Nigeria and Barbados are in talks over direct flight services.

In a new development, the airline has expanded its fleet with the addition of another Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft as it moves to meet increasing passenger demand across domestic and regional routes.

Air Peace said beyond increasing capacity, the aircraft will support more efficient route deployment and strengthen schedule reliability across its expanding network within Nigeria and other parts of Africa.

In December 2025, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, said local airlines will soon get more aircraft to access international routes, enabling them to compete with foreign carriers operating into Nigeria.

The minister said one of Nigeria’s main challenges is the inability of local carriers to reciprocate international flights.

According to Keyamo, the lack of capacity contributes to high airfares, as foreign carriers take advantage of Nigeria’s large passenger traffic.
